Allergies Home > Nasonex for Allergies

Nasonex® (mometasone nasal spray) is a prescription medicine commonly used for the treatment of nasal itching, runny or stuffy nose, and sneezing. While most people use Nasonex for allergies, the medication can also be used to treat nasal polyps (small, noncancerous growths on the lining inside the nose).
Nasonex is a type of steroid that decreases inflammation by limiting the body's ability to produce an immune system reaction. Clinical studies have shown that people using the drug experienced an improvement in their allergy symptoms and the severity of nasal polyps.
The medication comes in nasal spray form and is typically used once or twice a day, depending on the condition being treated. Children can use Nasonex for allergies, but the drug is not approved to treat nasal polyps in children.
