Zyrtec for Children

Zyrtec® (cetirizine hydrochloride) is a non-prescription medication often used for the treatment of allergy symptoms, such as itchy nose or throat, sneezing, and runny nose. It is also approved to relieve itching due to hives, which may or may not be caused by allergies.
Zyrtec belongs to a group of medications known as non-sedating antihistamines, which means it is less likely to cause drowsiness, although people can still experience this side effect when taking the drug.
There are several different forms of Zyrtec for children. Zyrtec tablets, chewable tablets, and Perfect Measure prefilled spoons can be given to children as young as six years old. Children's Zyrtec Allergy syrup is approved for use in children ages two years and older.
