Zyrtec Allergy Medicine

A non-prescription allergy medicine, Zyrtec is approved for the treatment of sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and other allergy symptoms. It can also be used to treat itching due to hives, which may or may not be caused by allergies.
The medication, which is usually taken by mouth once a day, comes in several forms, including tablets, chewable tablets, and syrup. Some people only need to take Zyrtec during allergy season, but others need to take it all year long.
When histamine is released from certain cells in the body, it can cause allergy symptoms. Histamine is also responsible for the formation of hives. By blocking histamine, Zyrtec can help relieve these conditions.
Although Zyrtec is available over the counter, you should still consult your healthcare provider before using this antihistamine product if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or any allergies (to food, dyes, or preservatives).
