Xyzal Oral

Xyzal® (
levocetirizine dihydrochloride) is an antihistamine product commonly used for treating allergies, including seasonal and year-round allergies. It is also licensed to treat chronic hives due to unknown causes.

The medication comes in two strengths and forms, including:

  • Xyzal 5 mg tablets -- which may be broken in half to achieve a lower dose of 2.5 mg
  • Xyzal oral solution (liquid) -- which contains 0.5 mg of Xyzal per mL (equivalent to 2.5 mg per teaspoonful).
  •
By blocking histamine from binding to histamine receptors, Xyzal can help alleviate itching due to hives and relieve common allergy symptoms, such as itchy nose and eyes, sneezing, and runny nose.

Before your healthcare provider prescribes you Xyzal, make sure he or she is aware if you are pregnant, have kidney disease, or have any allergies (including allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives). In order to help prevent drug interactions, it is also important to tell your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking.
