Xyzal Liquid

If you have allergies or chronic hives, your healthcare provider may prescribe Xyzal® (levocetirizine dihydrochloride). The medication is an antihistamine that can help relieve common allergy symptoms (such as itchy nose and eyes, sneezing, and a runny nose) and alleviate itching due to hives.

The drug comes in two different forms and strengths, including:

  • Xyzal 5 mg tablets -- which may be broken in half to achieve a lower dose of 2.5 mg
  • Xyzal liquid (oral solution) -- which contains 0.5 mg of Xyzal per mL (equivalent to 2.5 mg per teaspoonful).
  •
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Xyzal. However, most people tolerate this drug well. When side effects occur, they are usually minor and either require no medical attention or can be treated easily. Potential side effects include dry mouth, the common cold, drowsiness, and fatigue.
