Sudafed® (pseudoephedrine hydrochloride) is a non-prescription medicine used for the treatment of nasal congestion due to allergies or the common cold. It is also approved to relieve sinus congestion and pressure. The medication belongs to a class of drugs known as decongestants, which work by stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors in the lining of the nose and sinuses. Although you do not need a prescription to buy this medication, you must show identification to buy it (as the various versions of this drug are kept behind the pharmacy counter).
