Sudafed® (pseudoephedrine hydrochloride) is an over-the-counter medication used for relieving nasal congestion due to allergies or the common cold. It can also relieve sinus congestion and pressure. It belongs to a class of drugs called decongestants and works by stimulating certain receptors known as alpha-adrenergic receptors in the lining of the nose and sinuses. The medication comes in various forms, including immediate-release tablets, extended-release tablets, and a liquid; the instructions for use vary with each different product.
