Sudafed Drug Interactions

There are a number of medications that could interact with Sudafed. Bromocriptine, sodium bicarbonate antacids, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, and cannabinoids are just a few of the substances that can interfere with the decongestant. These drug interactions can increase the risk of serious problems such as high blood pressure, rapid heart rate (tachycardia), irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia), or seizures.

Sudafed Interactions: An Overview

 Sudafed® (pseudoephedrine hydrochloride) can potentially interact with a number of other medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with Sudafed include (but are not limited to):
 

 

    • Dronabinol (Marinol®)
    • Marijuana
    • Nabilone (Cesamet™)

 

  • Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, such as:

 

    • Acetazolamide (Diamox®)
    • Dichlorphenamide (Daranide®)
    • Methazolamide

 

  • Iobenguane I 123 (AdreView™)
     
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), including:

 

 

  • Phenothiazine medications, including:
