Singulair® (montelukast sodium) is a medication that is available by prescription to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. By blocking the release of certain chemicals in the body (leukotrienes), the drug can help reduce nasal allergy symptoms, improve asthma symptoms, and decrease the number of asthma attacks. Singulair is generally taken once a day and is available in the form of tablets, chewable tablets, and granules. While most people tolerate the medicine well, potential side effects include the flu, stomach pain, and headache.
