Qnasl Uses
Qnasl is a medicine specifically approved to treat nasal symptoms, such as sneezing and a runny nose, caused by seasonal or year-round (perennial) allergies. It is a type of steroid and works by reducing inflammation caused by the immune system's response to substances like pollens. There are also some off-label (unapproved) uses for Qnasl, such as treating nasal polyps or nonallergic rhinitis.
Qnasl™ (beclomethasone nasal aerosol) is a prescription medication approved for treating nasal symptoms due to allergies in people age 12 and older. It belongs to a group of medications known as nasal steroids.
Although the immune system usually works to protect us from bacteria, viruses, and other harmful substances, sometimes the immune system reacts to normally harmless substances, such as pollens, certain foods, or medicines. This results in allergies. Allergies can either be seasonal or perennial. Seasonal allergies, such as hay fever, occur at specific times of the year, while perennial allergies can occur throughout the year.
Allergies can affect various parts of the body, and allergy symptoms are particularly common in the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. Nasal allergies mostly affect the nose and eyes. Nasal allergies are also known as allergic rhinitis. Symptoms of nasal allergies may include:
- A runny nose
- Itching nose, eyes, ears, or throat
- Sneezing
- Nasal congestion.
Combined with strategies to minimize a person's contact with allergens, treatment can make life bearable for even the worst allergy sufferer. Treatment often includes shots or medications. Qnasl is a particularly useful medicine for treating allergy symptoms that primarily affect the nose, and can be used to treat seasonal or perennial allergies.
