Drug Interactions With Oxymetazoline Nasal Spray

Although oxymetazoline is a nasal spray, it can still cause potentially dangerous drug interactions. For example, combining a cannabinoid drug (such as marijuana) with oxymetazoline nasal spray may increase your risk of a fast heart rate. Other drug interactions with oxymetazoline nasal spray may lead to high blood pressure or life-threatening complications.

An Overview of Oxymetazoline Nasal Spray Interactions

 Oxymetazoline nasal spray (Afrin®, Nostrilla®, Sudafed OM™, and many others) can potentially interact with a number of other medicines. Some of the medications that may lead to drug interactions with oxymetazoline nasal spray include but are not limited to:
 
  • Cannabinoid medications, such as:
 
    • Dronabinol (Marinol®)
    • Marijuana
    • Nabilone (Cesamet™)
 
  • Iobenguane I 123 (AdreView™)
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as:
