Nasonex for Children

Nasonex® (mometasone nasal spray) is a prescription medication used for relieving seasonal or perennial nasal allergy symptoms, treating nasal polyps, and preventing seasonal nasal allergy symptoms. It belongs to a class of drugs called corticosteroids. By decreasing inflammation, corticosteroids can help relieve nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes or throat.

Healthcare providers can prescribe Nasonex for children as young as two years old with seasonal or year-round (perennial) allergies. For preventing seasonal allergies, the medicine can be used in children age 12 and older. The nasal spray is not approved for treating nasal polyps in children.

You should talk to your child's healthcare provider about the particular benefits and risks of prescribing Nasonex for children.
