Nasalide and Breastfeeding

It is not fully understood whether it is safe for women who are nursing to take Nasalide. Breastfeeding women should notify their healthcare providers prior to using the allergy medicine and should watch for any side effects in their child. Inhaled steroids are often considered to be safe for use when breastfeeding, Nasalide included, especially if the recommended dose is not exceeded.

Nasalide and Breastfeeding: An Overview

Currently, it is not known whether Nasalide® (flunisolide nasal solution) passes through breast milk in humans. While it is unlikely that the drug will cause problems for women who are nursing or their infants, the risks are not fully understood at this time. If you are breastfeeding a child, you should talk with your healthcare provider about taking Nasalide.

Nasalide and Breastfeeding: What Does the Research Say?

Nasalide is a corticosteroid nasal spray used to treat nasal allergies in adults and children as young as six years old. Studies have shown that other steroids pass through breast milk, but it is unknown whether flunisolide (the active ingredient in Nasalide) also passes through breast milk. However, inhaled steroids (such as Nasalide) are often considered to be safe for use in many breastfeeding women, especially if the recommended dose is not exceeded. If your healthcare provider recommends taking Nasalide while breastfeeding, be sure to watch for any side effects in your child.
