Allergies Home > What Is Zyrtec Used For?

Zyrtec® (cetirizine hydrochloride) is an over-the-counter antihistamine commonly used for treating allergies in adults and children.
Many people may wonder, "What is Zyrtec used for, other than relieving allergy symptoms?" Besides treating allergy symptoms such as itching or watery eyes, runny nose, and sneezing, the medication is also approved to treat itching due to hives, which may or may not be caused by allergies.
Zyrtec tablets, chewable tablets, and Children's Hives Relief syrup are approved for use in children as young as six years old. Children's Zyrtec Allergy syrup is approved for use in children age two years and older.
(Click Zyrtec Uses for more information on what Zyrtec is used for, to learn how the medication works, and to find out if it is used off-label for any conditions.)
