Allergies Home > Zetonna Side Effects
Although it may be difficult to determine whether you will develop side effects while using Zetonna, some of the most common reactions that occurred during clinical trials included nosebleeds, headaches, and nasal discomfort. While these types of reactions tend to be mild, there are some potentially serious problems, such as acne-like skin problems or difficulty breathing, that require immediate medical treatment.
An Introduction to Zetonna Side EffectsJust like any medicine, Zetonna™ (ciclesonide) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the drug will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Zetonna. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)
Common Side Effects of ZetonnaZetonna has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people using the drug were documented and compared to those that were reported in another group using a similar product that did not contain any active ingredients (a placebo). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group not using the placebo.
In these studies, the most common Zetonna side effects included:
- Nosebleeds -- in up to 11.4 percent of people
- Nasal discomfort -- up to 5.7 percent
- Headache -- up to 3.1 percent.
Other problems that occurred in at least 2 percent of people (although the exact percentages were not specified) included:
- Upper respiratory tract infections (such as the common cold)
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs, such as a bladder infection)
- Throat pain
- Unspecified problems with the lining of the nasal passages or the nasal septum (the middle of the nose between the nostrils)
- The flu
- Strep throat
- Muscle strain
- Sinus infection
- Back pain.
