Allergies Home > Veramyst Side Effects
Fever, headaches, and nosebleeds are among the most common side effects reported with Veramyst. Side effects of the medicine are minor in most cases and usually don't require treatment. There are, however, a number of potentially serious Veramyst side effects that may require medical attention, such as frequent and severe nosebleeds, glaucoma or cataracts, signs of steroid toxicity, and slow growth in children.
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Veramyst™ (fluticasone furoate nasal spray). However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Veramyst. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Veramyst side effects with you.)
Veramyst has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials in which the side effects in a group of people taking the drug are documented and compared to another group not taking the medicine. As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.
In these studies, the most common side effects of Veramyst included:
- Headaches -- in up to 9 percent of people
- Nosebleeds -- up to 6 percent
- Fever -- up to 5 percent
- Cough -- up to 4 percent.
- Throat pain -- up to 2 percent
- Nasal sores -- up to 1 percent
- Back pain -- up to 1 percent.
