Allergies Home > Quercetin Drug Interactions
Even though it is a dietary supplement, quercetin can potentially interact with some medications. At this time, it is thought that it could potentially interact with fluoroquinolone antibiotics, such as:
- Ciprofloxacin (Cipro®, Cipro® XR, Proquin® XR)
- Gatifloxacin (Tequin®)
- Gemifloxacin (Factive®)
- Levofloxacin (Levaquin®)
- Moxifloxacin (Avelox®)
- Norfloxacin (Noroxin®)
- Ofloxacin (Floxin®).
It is thought that quercetin could make such antibiotics less effective. Do not take quercetin and a fluoroquinolone at the same time without first checking with your healthcare provider.
It is possible that there may be other drug interactions with quercetin that are currently unknown but that may be discovered someday in the future. Therefore, it is always a good idea to include quercetin in your list of medications when checking for any interactions. Also, be sure to check with your healthcare provider about any possible interactions with quercetin that may apply to your particular situation.
