Allergies Home > Zyrtec Itchy Eye Drops Information

Zyrtec® Itchy Eye Drops (ketotifen ophthalmic solution) can help treat eye itching caused by allergies to grass, pollen, and pet dander. Available without a prescription, this antihistamine medication comes in the form of an eye drop that is used twice a day. It works by blocking a specific type of histamine receptor in the body (H1 receptors). Since the symptoms of allergic reactions are partly caused by histamine, the drops are effective at both preventing and relieving allergy symptoms.

Because Zyrtec Eye Drops may not be suitable for everyone, be sure to review the drug information that comes on the label. Check with your healthcare provider before using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any allergies. Most people tolerate this medicine well, but side effects can occur; common ones include headache, red eyes, and stuffy nose.
