Flonase Child Dosage

For adolescents and children four years old and older, the recommended starting dosage of Flonase® (fluticasone propionate nasal spray) is one spray in each nostril once daily. If needed, your healthcare provider may increase the child dosage of Flonase up to two sprays in each nostril once daily. However, the Flonase dosage will be based on several factors, such as age, other existing medical conditions, and other medications being taken. For adults and children, the maximum Flonase dosage is two sprays in each nostril once daily.

Some general dosing guidelines include:

  • Be sure to shake the bottle well before each use.

  • Blow your nose before each dose. Breathe in gently while spraying the medication into your nose. Do not try to inhale the spray or breathe in too deeply, as Flonase works when it comes into contact with the inside surfaces of the nose, not the throat or lungs.

  • Avoid aiming the spray toward the wall that separates your nostrils (in the middle of your nose, called the nasal septum). Some people find it easiest to avoid this by holding the bottle in the opposite hand (using the right hand to spray into the left nostril, and vice versa).
