Is Claritin Safe?

Claritin® (loratadine) is a non-prescription medication that can be used to treat common allergy symptoms. Even though it is a popular allergy medication, many people may still wonder, "Is Claritin safe?"

Although most people tolerate the drug well, side effects are possible. Some of the most common side effects that have been reported in adults taking Claritin include dry mouth, drowsiness, and fatigue. Common side effects in children include hyperactivity, abdominal pain, and wheezing.

As with most recently approved over-the-counter products, Claritin is usually safe to use. However, serious side effects could occur that may require medical attention. You should contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any breathing problems or signs of an allergic reaction, such as itching or hives.
