Claritin for Children

Claritin® (loratadine) is an antihistamine approved for treating common allergy symptoms, such as itchy or watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, and itchy nose or throat. It is also licensed to treat itching due to hives.

Histamine is responsible for many of the symptoms of allergies, as well as the formation of hives. Claritin is an antihistamine that blocks histamine from binding to histamine receptors, which helps to relieve allergy symptoms and alleviate itching due to hives.

There are certain forms of Claritin for children, including syrup, chewable tablets, and orally disintegrating tablets. The syrup and chewable tablets are approved for use in children as young as two years old, while Claritin RediTabs® (orally disintegrating tablets that dissolve quickly in the mouth) can be given to a child age 6 or older.
