Claritin® is commonly used to treat a variety of allergy symptoms, including runny, itchy nose; sneezing; and watery eyes. It works by blocking the action of histamine receptors in the body, which prevents the immune system reactions that cause allergy symptoms. The drug is now available without a prescription, and it comes in several forms. Side effects of Claritin can include headaches, drowsiness, and dry mouth.

However, this medication is not suitable for everyone. Before taking it, talk to your healthcare provider or pharmacist about all medical conditions you have. For example, people with kidney or liver disease may not be able to safely take Claritin. In addition, tell your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking, including vitamins and non-prescription drugs.
