Side Effects of Claritin-D

Serious Side Effects

Some side effects with Claritin-D, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. As with most recently approved non-prescription products, Claritin-D is usually safe to use and rarely causes serious side effects. These potentially serious side effects include but are not limited to:

  • Wheezing or other breathing problems
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • An irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia) or rapid heart rate (tachycardia)
  • Chest pain
  • Seizures
  • Difficulty passing urine
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, including an unexplained rash, hives, itching, and unexplained swelling, especially of the lips, mouth, or throat.

Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of the Claritin-D side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand whether you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking the drug or if something "just does not seem right." While the issue may not be related to a side effect, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
