Dosage of Clarinex: An Introduction
The dose of
Clarinex® (
desloratadine) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your age
- What you are being treated for
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you may be currently taking.
As with any medication, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Clarinex Dosage for Adults and Children 12 Years and Over
For adults and children ages 12 and over, the Clarinex dose for tablets or RediTabs
® is 5 mg, once a day. For
Clarinex syrup, the recommended dose is 2 teaspoons (5 mg in 2 teaspoons), once a day.
If you have kidney or liver disease, your healthcare provider may recommend a starting dose of 5 mg every other day.
Clarinex Dose for Children 6 to 11 Years
The Clarinex dose for children ages 6 to 11 years old is 2.5 mg once a day. This can be taken either as 1 RediTab or as 1 teaspoon of syrup.
Clarinex Dosage for Children 12 Months to 5 Years
The starting Clarinex dose for children 12 months to 5 years of age is 1.25 mg of syrup a day (½ teaspoon).
Clarinex Dose for Children 6 Months to 11 Months
The starting dose of Clarinex for children ages 6 months to 11 months of age is 1 mg (2 mL) of syrup once a day. For children 12 to 23 months of age, if symptoms continue, the dose can be increased to 5 mg per day. The 5-mg dose may be given as a syrup twice a day, 12 hours apart, and divided into two ½-teaspoon doses.
