Clarinex Allergies Medication

When used for treating hives and allergies, Clarinex® (desloratadine) works by blocking the effects of histamine. Clarinex is a prescription medication approved for the following uses:
  • Relief of seasonal allergy symptoms (hay fever)
  • Relief of indoor allergy symptoms
  • Treatment of chronic (long-term) hives and itching (known medically as chronic urticaria).
Although most people do not experience problems with this allergy medication, Clarinex can cause side effects. Some of the common side effects include fatigue, nausea, and a sore throat.
Clarinex is typically taken once a day and is available in several strengths and forms, including:
  • Clarinex 5 mg tablets
  • Clarinex RediTabs® 2.5 mg -- orally disintegrating tablets
  • Clarinex RediTabs 5 mg -- orally disintegrating tablets
  • Clarinex syrup 2.5 mg/5 mL -- each teaspoon (5 mL) contains 2.5 mg.
