Not many side effects of Benadryl® (diphenhydramine hydrochloride) are documented because it is a relatively "old" medication that was approved before the FDA required detailed side effect information for drugs. Based on the limited side effect information for the prescription version of the drug, side effects are believed to include indigestion or heartburn, sedation, dizziness, and coordination problems.
