Benadryl® (diphenhydramine hydrochloride) is a medication commonly used for relieving or preventing allergy symptoms. Some products can also be used to treat common cold symptoms, insomnia, or Parkinson's disease. The medication, which is available both over the counter and by prescription, comes in many different forms and can be taken orally, applied to the skin, or injected into a muscle or vein (depending on the particular product). Potential side effects include indigestion or heartburn, dizziness, and drowsiness.
