Benadryl® (diphenhydramine hydrochloride) is a medication that is approved for treating numerous conditions, including allergy and common cold symptoms, insomnia, and Parkinson's disease. It is part of a class of drugs known as antihistamines, which work by blocking acetylcholine receptors and H1 receptors in the body. The medicine comes in many different forms (including topical and oral forms) and is available both over the counter and by prescription.
