Astelin Drug Interactions

Several medications may interact with Astelin. Drug interactions can occur if Astelin is taken with narcotics or opiates, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, or other antihistamines. These interactions could increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness or decreased alertness. In order to avoid Astelin drug interactions, tell your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking, both prescription and non-prescription.

Astelin Drug Interactions: An Overview

 Astelin® (azelastine hydrochloride) can potentially interact with a number of other medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to Astelin drug interactions include:
 
  • Alcohol
 
  • Barbiturates, such as:
 
    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)
 
  • Benzodiazepines, such as:
 
 
 
 
  • Other antihistamines.
