Astelin® (
azelastine hydrochloride) only comes in one strength -- Astelin 137 mcg nasal spray, containing 200 sprays in each bottle, with 137 mcg of medication in each spray. A healthcare provider may prescribe Astelin to treat sneezing, a runny or stuffy nose, and nasal itching (known medically as rhinitis). This prescription medication is approved to treat these symptoms when they are due to either seasonal allergens (known as seasonal allergic rhinitis) or to other irritants (known as rhinitis or vasomotor rhinitis).
Treating Nasal Allergies
The recommended dose of Astelin for treating nasal
allergies (known as allergic rhinitis) in adults and children age 12 and older is one or two sprays in each nostril twice daily. For children ages 5 to 11, the recommended dose is one spray of Astelin in each nostril twice daily.
Treating Nasal Irritation
The recommended dose of Astelin for treating nasal symptoms that are due to irritants (known as vasomotor rhinitis) in adults and children age 12 and older is two sprays in each nostril twice daily.
