Pataday™ (
olopatadine ophthalmic solution) is an eye drop commonly used for the treatment of eye
allergy symptoms. Specifically, it is used to relieve itchy eyes due to allergic conjunctivitis. Pataday eye drops, which are available by prescription only, are used just once per day (one drop in each affected eye).
Pataday belongs to a group of allergy medications known as antihistamines. It works by blocking a specific type of histamine receptor in the body known as H1 receptors. Pataday also seems to decrease the release of histamine from cells in the body. Since the symptoms of allergic reactions are partly caused by histamine, the medication can help prevent or relieve allergy symptoms.
Just like any medicine, Pataday can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience problems. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.
