Optivar comes in the form of an eye drop and is typically used in each eye twice a day. Optivar eye drops are part of a class of drugs called antihistamines. These drops work by blocking a specific type of histamine receptor in the body (known as H1 receptors). Because allergic reactions are partly caused by the release of histamine from certain cells in the body, Optivar can help relieve or prevent
allergy symptoms.
Although most people tolerate this medication well, it is not suitable for everyone. Possible side effects include
headaches, a bitter taste, and temporary eye burning. Before using Optivar eye drops, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medical conditions you may have and any other medications you are taking (including non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements).
