Benadryl Medication Information
Benadryl® (diphenhydramine hydrochloride) is an antihistamine medicine available both over the counter and with a prescription. It comes in many different forms and is used for a variety of different purposes, including the treatment of allergies, insomnia, and common cold symptoms.
Before you begin taking Benadryl, information on the medication should be thoroughly reviewed to help minimize any risks. You should talk to your healthcare provider before taking this medication if you have high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma, or asthma. Since Benadryl could worsen certain medical conditions, it is important that you tell your healthcare provider about all other existing conditions that you have.
A number of side effects have been reported with various Benadryl products. Some of the most common side effects of this drug include indigestion or heartburn, dizziness, coordination problems, and drowsiness. Of course, some "side effects" of Benadryl (such as drowsiness) are not considered to be side effects in certain situations (such as if you are taking the medication for insomnia).
