Over-the-Counter Allegra

Allegra® (
 fexofenadine hydrochloride) is a medication often used for the treatment of seasonal allergies and chronic hives. There are currently no over-the-counter Allegra products available; you must have a prescription for this drug.
 
This medicine is an antihistamine that can help relieve symptoms of hay fever, such as:
 
  • Itchy, watery, or red eyes
  • Sneezing
  • Runny nose
  • Itchy nose or throat.
 
It has also been shown to help improve itching due to hives.
 
Allegra comes in several different forms and strengths, including tablets, syrup, and orally disintegrating tablets. It is taken by mouth, generally once or twice a day. The syrup and orally disintegrating tablets are approved for use in young children.
 
Before your healthcare provider prescribes Allegra, make sure he or she is aware if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have kidney disease, or have any allergies (including allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives).
