Allegra® (fexofenadine hydrochloride) is an antihistamine often used for treating seasonal allergies and chronic hives.
It is available without a prescription and comes in several different forms and strengths, including:
- Allegra 30 mg tablets
- Allegra 60 mg tablets
- Allegra 180 mg tablets
- Allegra ODT 30 mg tablets (orally disintegrating)
- Allegra oral suspension, which contains 30 mg of medication per 5 mL or per teaspoonful.
Allegra works by blocking the effects of histamine, chemicals in the body that can cause sneezing, itching, and irritation. The medication has been shown to be effective at relieving symptoms of hay fever and alleviating itching due to hives.
