Allegra Dosage

When determining your dose of Allegra, your doctor will consider factors such as your age and the presence of other medical conditions. For example, children age 6 to 11 are recommended to start with a dosage of 30 mg twice a day. It is very important to take your dosage exactly as prescribed.

Allegra Dosage: An Introduction

The dosage of Allegra® (fexofenadine hydrochloride) your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:

  • Your age
  • The severity of your symptoms
  • Other medical conditions you have
  • Other medications you are currently taking.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Dosing of Allegra for Seasonal Allergies or Chronic Hives

Adults and Children 12 Years and Over
For adults and children 12 years old and over with seasonal
allergies, the recommended dosing is Allegra 60 mg twice a day or Allegra 180 mg once a day.

If you have kidney disease or are over age 65, your healthcare provider may start you on a lower dosage of Allegra, such as Allegra 60 mg once a day.

Children 6 to 11
For children 6 to 11 years of age, the recommended dosing is 30 mg twice a day. Children in this age group may need to take Allegra ODT 30 mg tablets (orally disintegrating tablets, which rapidly dissolve in the mouth) or Allegra oral suspension (liquid).

For children with kidney disease, a dosage of 30 mg once a day is usually recommended.
